deciBel Description
deciBel is the result of a serious effort to make an Android based SPL meter as close to a professional-grade device as the phone hardware limitations allow. It uses a Fast Fourier Transform algorithm to implement a high precision A weighting filter and sophisticated digital signal processing techniques to achieve the best possible SPL readings out of your Android phone or tablet.
It displays the current, maximum and minimum values in decibels, and generates 3 kinds of sound pressure level versus time charts. The display can be turned upside down to allow pointing the mic at the sound source.
deciBel is supported by ads.
### Please calibrate before the first use! ###
Features:
- true A-Weighting (ANSI S1.4)
- simple calibration interface
- numeric dB, dBmin and dBmax display
- sliding sound level versus time chart
- sliding max, min and average soud level versus time chart
- accumulated sound level exposition chart (dosimeter)
- saves chart screen shots to the SD card
- dominant frequency display
- 22Khz bandwidth at the input of the weighting filter
- 1024 point real time FFT and digital sound processing
- movable to the SD card

Valentin Konovalov: Simple and accurate

A Google User: Nice

Matt C.: Very good.

A Google User: Moto razr no response Unfortunately this app did not register any readings at all on my moto razr, clearly the microphone was not enabled, and the readings were just stuck at a random default level. It is unfair to give any judgement of it though.

A Google User: Very pleased After calibrating using an instrumentation digital sound level meter and using both the app and the professional meter side by side the results were nearly identical. Comparison made using voice, television and a running vaccum cleaner. Best results of the two apps I downloaded.

A Google User: Accurate Put it next to a real tester today and was within .7 of a db.

A Google User: Great little app Version 1.2 fixes the crash issue on ICS. Useful once calibrated.

A Google User: Works well, on Gal S2. GR8

A Google User: Not accurate

A Google User: Awesome!

A Google User: Works well Tried many other ones but this was the best of them all !!

A Google User: Explain permissions Lowered rating and nu upgrade until permission is explained or preferably removed.

A Google User: Does what it says. Thanks Dev for fixing permission. Raised rating back.

A Google User: Works great Exactly as advertised, no problems at all on my droid2

A Google User: Nice app Works great on Xperia active

A Google User: Decibel Works great for what it is a phone based meter.

A Google User: Not with ICS Format work on my galaxy nexus.

A Google User: Sounds like frode failed to read instructions or calibrate to his phone. Works good for me but looks.... boring, technical. Perfer a simpler readout

A Google User: ICS issues. Calibrate for accuracy Does not work in ICS / gnexus. Worked great on Droid. People please quit bitchin about accuracy unless you calibrate it.

A Google User: Jason is just retarded. He obviously doesn't understand the doppler effect. The app works fine. I found out a game at chuckle cheese maxed at 120db, I got free tokens.

A Google User: Excellent little SPL meter. Charts and graphs as it goes. You can even save screen shots. See how quiet your car really is at highway speed!

A Google User: I use dB meters regularly so know what to expect. Calibration great on my HTC desire. Pretty accurate. To restart hold down on top bit of screen.

A Google User: I like the app and use it in noisy restaurants to see just how loud they are. Would like baselines shown: 747, jackhammer, etc. N1/FRF91

A Google User: Next to junk Tried in both factory and office settings. Terrible. Readings were nowhere near accurate. Would have been fun to use/play with/show off. Glad it didn't cost me anything.

A Google User: Good app but the hardware stops it from being too useful. As spl goes above 80 the Mic is out of its working range

A Google User: While it will not go over 140.5 it seems very accurate on my DroidX on 2.2. Would like to see faster updates.

A Google User: highly inaccurate. loud music in my car showed 74 db when turned down shot up to 85 db.

A Google User: Its not accurate at all over ~90db, but most phone mics suck so I expected that. Pretty cool to have anyways

A Google User: Nice idea, but I don't know anyone with a dB calibrating device which is why I downloaded in the first place. Help isn't very helpful.

A Google User: Registers way to high. 90db in a room with no noise. X10 maybe thats the problem.

A Google User: Nice app, would really like to be able to save data out as more than just screenshots though, csv file of all the data points or something would rock

A Google User: Pretty cool but it maxed out in my husbands suv. Needs to be able to go higher. Droid x 2.2

A Google User: Exactly as described Does what it says, only as good as your phones hardware. Is not a pro tool, but certainly a fun reference.

A Google User: fun app, hindered by the quality of the phone mic. think of it as a sound meter. to think it can give the db of your car sub is dumb.

A Google User: Do not work! Do now work on my LG-P500

A Google User: Well designed, however if when I cough it hits 140dB and I know a jet taking off is roughly 120dB. Needs to be retuned.

A Google User: Worst app ever!! I was completely quiet and it said 91.8 and 92.5db. Its soo crappy! I wish i could give negative stars!

A Google User: Jeff Works extremely well on my rooted Droid X. Great idea and well done. Thank you.

A Google User: Not a bad idea but too unreliable. Displays too high db. I guess that's because of the limitation of the phones mic.

A Google User: Doesn't work well. Poor UI also. Would love to see this improve.
